Comparative Study to Optimize Surface Roughness of the Titanium Alloy Ti-6Al-4V by Applying Taguchi, RSM and TLBO Methods

Titanium alloys are used in aeronautics and the shipbuilding industry for their good intrinsic properties, namely low density (40% less than steel), very mechanical properties resistance to corrosion. The purpose of this study is optimize cutting conditions during turning Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy with Minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL) leading minimize surface roughness (Ra). tests were carried out according a Taguchi L18 design plan by varying four input factors namely: speed, feed rate, depth cut tool material (coated carbide (PVD) (GC1125) uncoated (H13A)). Analysis variance (ANOVA) was found contribution each factor determine which parameters had significant influence on roughness. treatment results made it possible propose mathematical model, allows predicting Ra. In addition, Signal/Noise (S/N) analysis order permitting Desirability Function (DF) also determined. obtained compared one determined using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) Teaching Learning Based Optimization (TLBO). It important note that TLBO method gave satisfactory result.
